Based on the real-life experiences of combat veterans, this nine-episode series captures the full impact of the Vietnam War experience on everyday men and women. Stories such as the corporal who accidentally steps on a pressure-sensitive mine and waits eight agonizing hours for someone to defuse it. Or the account of an American farm boy-turned-soldier who discovers that bringing his aid to a starving Vietnamese village will result in personal tragedy. Then there is the story of Mary, a young and impressionable nurse who arrives for her tour of duty, facing the pain of wounded and dying men
