Summary
"An Ätman Visits Planet Earth" is a science fiction story of a robotic person, Horatio, using a remarkably new form of energy to travel at just under the speed of light from his own planet, Ragnarök, to planet Earth 250 million years ago. By a system of 3-D printing Horatio regenerates his body every million years, so that he is able to study the evolution of earth from the time of the dinosaurs, through their destruction; followed by the evolution of mammals till the present day. The book's historical description of evolution and the achievements of homo sapiens in scientific understanding and developing technologies for their own convenience is carefully and accurately documented in the book. The nature of human culture is discussed, including philosophical and religious concepts and the rise of the economy as a driving motivation. The unfortunate side-effects that have arisen from the exponential growth in human population and the increasing application of technologies that pollute the planet are discussed. The alien visitor, Horatio, reaches the conclusion that the effect of climate change will make Earth uninhabitable in a few years and so he returns to his planet where they devise a science-fiction solution to save Earth. Furthermore the robotic species on the planet Ragnarök recognize that love is an essential reason for living
