- 新朝年间, 刘秀于长安太学求学之时, 结识了邓禹、刘玄、冯异等才俊, 以及少年阴丽华. 数年后, 新莽暴政, 天下大乱, 刘縯与刘秀等率数千人于舂陵正式起兵反莽. 阴丽华亦化名阴戟, 追随左右. 后刘玄被绿林军立为皇帝, 因忌惮刘家兄弟功高, 设计诛杀刘縯. 刘秀娶阴丽华为妻, 韬光养晦, 使得刘玄放松警惕, 放其持节北上, 重振旗鼓. 河北之路危机重重, 幸有邓禹、冯异、吴汉、耿弇等旧故新知先后来投, 患难与共. 迫于时局, 刘秀与真定王刘扬联姻结盟, 娶其外甥女郭氏为妻. 刘秀登基之初, 阴丽华与郭圣通并为贵人. 因阴氏族小辞后, 郭圣通因得立为皇后. 刘秀与一众肝胆相照的同袍并肩作战, 浴血沙场, 经十数载不懈努力终于克定天下, 中国再次归于一统. 皇后党和贵人党之间的矛盾激化, 阴丽华所生的九皇子刘衡无故夭折, 刘秀终怒而废郭氏, 立阴丽华为后. 皇太子刘彊上表辞位, 改立刘阳为太子. 刘秀当年"仕宦当作执金吾, 娶妻当得阴丽华"的夙愿得偿
