Summary
Denver, 1972. Police harrassment and oppression were a part of gay life. But five people decided it was time for a change and formed the Gay Coalition of Denver. They quickly attracted a dedicated core and formed their gay liberation vision, began outreach, and continued to attract membership. In the winter of 1973, the city's undercover cops arrested hundreds of gay men with the aid of a "Johnny Cash Special" bus. Every arrested, based on conversations that a cop decided was 'lewd', was considered illegal. But community organizing, press conferences and newspaper articles over the next ten months drew 300 gays and lesbians to a Public Hearing at the Denver City Council chambers
