- "El año del desierto es la historia de un año en la vida de María Valdés Neylan, contado por ella misma desde algún lugar de Irlanda o Inglaterra. La novela narra la disolución -- literal -- de una ciudad (Buenos Aires), de una nación (Argentina), y de una trama vital (la de María). El agente de esta disolución es la Intemperie. Pero ¿qué es la Intemperie? La novela no provee una definición. No sabemos si es un fenómeno natural o sobrenatural, una fuerza neutra o el instrumento de un designio maligno. Nadie atestigua el accionar de la Intemperie. Sólo se constatan sus efectos: la gradual degradación y desaparición de los edificios, de las calles, de todo rastro de habitación y trabajo humanos, remplazados por una naturaleza fuera de cauce. Por la Intemperie, la ciudad va desvaneciéndose y el desierto va reconquistando lo que fuera desde siempre suyo."--Page 4 of cover
