Lucy not only belongs to the lower class, but is as expert in deciphering secret codes, cheating at card games, breaking locks and training future spies as the count himself, in both the skills necessary to protect the homeland and in the mysteries of love. Clifton is going to take part in a dangerous mission and before leaving Lucy promises she will be his wife. But the war will keep them separated for too long, and when he finally returns, he cannot find her. Disenchanted, the count ends up proposing marriage to the rich and lovely Annella Corby. But just then Lucy reappears in his life in a rage, and at the same time, eager to retrieve the man of her dreams. Can love rise above the desire for revenge?
