Note
  • Colophon: "Single source has been designed & printed by Graham Mackintosh in an edition of 1000 copies--of which 25 have been bound by hand and are numbered and signed by the author."
  • This collection returns to print and, for the first time, makes generally available the three earliest books of Brother Antoninus: These are the ravens (1935), San Joaquin (1939), and The masculine dead (1942). "These works were printed in small editions, and were not actively distributed. Only a small percentage of the work in this volume is included in The residual years, the author's cumulative edition of his work published in 1948"--from Prospectus
