- "賢能的六阿哥奕訢因不善逢迎揣摩道光帝的心理,在與四皇子奕寧的皇位爭奪中落敗,被封為恭親王;奕寧即位後,忌其才華以福晉佳佳失儀為由免去奕訢一切職位。 咸豐六年,英法聯軍火燒圓明園,咸豐避居承德。臨危授命恭親王與敵議和,恭親王憑藉機智從洋人口中奪回不少尊嚴,令朝野稱譽。咸豐病危,肅順以輔助幼主為名脅迫咸豐擬訂了顧命八大臣,排斥奕訢。為防止肅順獨攬朝政,奕訢聯合慈禧太后發動辛亥政變,剷除肅順等人;而此時他已與慈禧互生情愫。 政變後,奕訢被授為議政王,兼管各國事務衙門。為富國強兵,奕訢大力推行洋務運動。數年後,慈禧逐漸勢力強大,疑忌奕訢的權勢以及奕訢與肅順養女玉兒的戀情而起衝突。為獨攬朝政,慈禧以御史蔡壽祺不明真相的彈劾,罷免奕訢的一切職權。捻軍之亂使奕訢再度復出,平定後動因反對貿然抗擊法國而再次被罷。在中日甲午戰爭危機之時,進行再次起用奕訢,但終因國勢衰敗,慈禧胡作非為而致敗局。此次復出奕訢未能扭轉戰局卻為慈禧背上戰敗的黑鍋。它成了奕訢最後的夢魘;他被愛他的女人- 慈禧徹底打垮了。數次起落,恭親王空有帝王之才卻無帝王之命,只落得一生為奴。
