- In the dazzling court of 18th century Naples, after an arranged marriage, King Ferdinando and Carolina, the 16-year-old daughter of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, allow themselves increasing indulgences in their sexual desires. The sovereigns begin to lapse in their reigning duties, becoming oblivious to the tide of revolution threatening to tear France apart
