- When Karim is falsely accused of stealing a priceless diamond left to him by his father, the young man is exonerated by William Darsay, an American tourist to whom Karim pledges eternal debt. Ten years later and now one of India's wealthiest men, Karim meets and proposes to William's sister Janice, but it is a love her family cannot accept. Asked by William to call off the engagement, Karim is torn between his feelings for Janice and the promise he made to his friend
