Summary
Prepare yourself: This is unlike any other Dracula film you have ever seen. It is probably unlike any movie you have ever seen. This film is an adaptation of a ballet first performed by the Winnipeg Royal Ballet in 1998, choreographed by Mark Godden to the music of Gustav Mahler. Like a newly discovered treasure from the silent era, the story is driven purely by images, with occasional sound effects, intertitles, color tinting, and dramatic splashes of red over washed-out black-and-white photography. Distilled down to just a few powerful scenes, the subject is the emotional impact of the vampire's invasion. Lush and dreamlike, voluptuous, whimsical, and exceedingly strange, the film is surprisingly faithful to the 1897 novel, featuring a Dracula who embodies demonic sexual hysteria imported into repressed Victorian England
